Archive Material held in Shropshire
An extensive collection of historical material relating to the Office of High Sheriff in Shropshire can be found in the Shropshire Archives in Shrewsbury including a very rare note from the Court of Elizabeth I, dated 1598, sent to the High Sheriff of Shropshire (Figure 1), a note from Humphrey Sandford, dated 1787, recording all his expenses and an indenture from Isaac Hawkins Browne appointing a gaoler.
