High Sheriff of Shropshire 2011-2012
Richard Burbidge, OBE
It was an honour and a privilege to be invited to become the High Sheriff of Shropshire and to enjoy the installation ceremony and service at the Church of St Michael in Ford, Shropshire in April 2011.
The High Sheriff is appointed by Her Majesty the Queen to represent Her in the county in matters relating to law and order. During my year in office I look forward to being involved with and supporting the many people who make such an important contribution in this area, such as the Police, Judges and Magistrates, the Coroners, the Prison and Probation Services plus, of course, our armed forces.
During my year in office, I also hope to celebrate the excellent work of the voluntary sector, which is active in so many areas of life across Shropshire. Every day, hundreds of people willingly give their time and energy to help others in many different activities.
In particular, I hope to spotlight the activities of Severn Hospice, a wonderful organisation that helps so many people and their families at a very difficult time in their lives. Any support you feel able to give to the fund raising activities I have planned to help Severn Hospice will be very welcome, thank you.
Finally, my wife Patricia and I also want to encourage the arts and the creative life of Shropshire. We have a number of events planned including a showcase of local artists ‘work, on the theme of AE Housman’s “A Shropshire Lad”, raising money for Severn Hospice.
Thank you for your interest and support.
